FDI welcomes vote in European Parliament

Food Drink Ireland (FDI), the Ibec group that represents the food sector, has welcomed today’s vote by a big majority in the European Parliament to begin negotiations with the other European Institutions on the proposed EU legislation to tackle unfair trading practices in the food supply chain.

With the triologue process between the three European institutions (Parliament, Commission and Council) now starting, FDI Director Paul Kelly also called on Minister Michael Creed to support extension of the proposed Directive to the full food chain within the Agriculture Council. He said that failure to protect all food and drink grocery suppliers, regardless of size, from unfair trading practices in our hugely important European export markets must be avoided.
