Whether you are the CEO, Manager or Regular Employee everyone can affect employee engagement… It is contagious and if you show enthusiasm and care for what you do people feed off this and will join in…
Employee engagement is broadly speaking the degree an employee is emotionally attached to their job, their team and their manager. This has an overall effect on their overall performance and willingness to go the extra mile for the organisation.
One way to improve Engagement levels within your organisation is through Well Being initiatives. Organising and supporting different well-being initiatives throughout the year can increase employee’s sense of belonging and lead to increased motivational levels. This can be done through organising physical activity events like 5km runs for charity or joining in pre-arranged events with a group of colleagues. These are great social outlets that allow you see different sides to your work-mates while also improving your overall health. Similarly, you can organise a Health and Wellness week which a lot of organisations do where they promote healthy living within the workplace. This includes things like having certain exercise classes organised or cooking healthy meals in the canteen or organising a workshop on ‘Workplace Wellbeing’ that gives tips and guidelines for employees and employers. These types of events lead to employees feeling more connected to their workplace which ultimately leads to increased productivity.
The best way to identify which types of events/initiatives will get the best uptake is by asking the employees. Organisations that build a culture where employee involvement matters really nail employee engagement and create a great place to work. Find out what types of events suit employees in general and build a plan that incorporates different events throughout the year to try suit as many as possible. Then get buy in from Senior Management as this will have a positive impact on uptake.
Employee engagement and Well-being are closely linked! And what’s good for the employee, is good for the organisation which in turn is good for the customer! So build a culture of well-being and get your organisation active!
