Introduction to the new workplace wellbeing ambassador
Dublin, Tuesday 1st March 2016: World Champion Boxer Bernard Dunne and All Star Dublin footballer Sinead Goldrick are calling on employers across Ireland to sign up for National Workplace Wellbeing Day on Friday, 8th April 2016. Dunne, who is currently sports performance and lifestyle coach to the Dublin Senior Football Team, and Goldrick are asking employers to organise a “Lunchtime Mile” for staff - a one mile run, jog, cycle or walk on the day. The nationwide campaign, which is organised by the Nutrition & Health Foundation and supported by Ibec, aims to help improve employee health through promoting better nutrition and exercise in workplaces.
“It’s in everyone interests to be healthier,” says Bernard Dunne. “People spend so much of their day at work that it’s the perfect place to promote better eating and exercise habits. Small steps can lead to big differences that can help today’s workers as well as their children and even grandchildren.”
Aer Lingus, Nestle Ireland, Naas Community College, Ulster Bank and Waterford Institute of Technology are among the many companies that have signed up already for the day. Last year hundreds of public and private sector organisations supported the inaugural event. They organised a range of special events for staff on the day including healthy breakfasts, health checks and talks, exercise and fitness classes, cookery demonstrations and lunchtime walks.
