Free Exercise Classes for National Workplace Wellbeing Day, Friday 31st March 2017
21st March 2017 Wellness evaluations, gym access, swims and fitness classes for employees are among the free and discounted offers to employers for Friday, 31st March 2017, Ireland’s third National Workplace Wellbeing Day. Food Drink Ireland (FDI), organisers of the campaign, have partnered with Ireland Active, which represents over 200 leisure centres and fitness providers around the country, to provide employers with free and inexpensive ways to promote exercise to their employees on the day. A list of participating leisure centres is available on irelandactive.ie while employers will find full details of Workplace Wellbeing Day and how to sign up at fooddrinkireland.ie/wellbeing
Research shows that only a quarter of workers in Ireland (25%) take the recommended level of exercise for a healthy lifestyle each week (150mins). Last year over 300 organisations from across the public and private sectors participated in the annual event which aims to improve employee wellbeing through promoting better exercise and nutrition in the workplace.
Dermot Doherty, FDI’s Health Strategy Manager, expects that the partnership with Ireland Active will be of particular interest to small to medium size organisations. "We're encouraging organisations of all sizes across the length and breadth of the country to mark Friday, 31st March with some healthy and fun activities for employees. It could simply be the “Lunchtime Mile” - where staff run, jog or cycle one mile in the vicinity of the workplace. Now through our partnership with Ireland Active there are lots more ways at little or no cost for employers who want to do something special for their staff on the day. With so much time spent in the workplace, improving employee wellbeing is in everyone’s best interest.
Conn McCluskey, Chief Executive, Ireland Active said: “We are delighted to support this great initiative and believe it is important to make it easier for more people to be more active more often. Workplace Wellbeing Day is a perfect opportunity for people to try out different activities and find one that they are happy to continue all year round.”
